FEBRUARY 25TH & 26TH IN SARASOTA
Join Karen for this 2-day introduction to Free Motion Quilting and youll be on your way to finishing your small quilts and projects on your home or sit-down sewing machine. Karen shares a wealth of free motion fundamentals including body and hand positioning, notions, needle and thread choices, tension adjustments, and more. On Day 1, several basic designs including echo, swirl, pebble, ribbon, and paisley will be discussed, drawn and stitched. On day 2, well improve our FMQ skills using small panels, pillow or table topper size samples. Day 2 also includes an introduction to more advanced designs including McTavishing & Continuous Curve Quilting.

Supplies:

Sewing machine with a Darning or Free Motion Quilting Foot (open or closed toe) 1 to 2 yards light colored quality cotton fabric cut into fat quarters – avoid tone on tone fabrics to 1 yard batting (Quilters Dream 100% Wool recommended)
Spools of high quality 40wt or 50wt cotton thread (Aurifilrecommended)
Quilting Gloves (Machingersare Karens favorite) – Basting Safety Pins Painters Tape Pen & Paper 90/14 Topstitch Needles (Superior Titanium Topstitch, Quilting, or Sharp Needles) Marking tool:Hera Marker ~ Air or Water Soluble Purple or Blue Marker~Soapstone ~OtherOptional:The Gypsy Quilter Supreme Slider(regular or queen size) or comparable Teflon/Glider sheet
Optional: Machineextension table (flat, flush surface) is highly recommended Order yours through the shop allow 6-8 weeks for delivery.
Good working knowledge of your sewing machine is recommended. If possible, bring your sewing machine manual or user guide.
Class Preparation:
Cut and Baste 3 or 4 Fat Quarter quilt sandwiches prior to workshop
Cut top fabric slightly smaller than batting and backing fabric (1 smaller on all sides)
